맛있는 샌드위치

 

 

오늘 같은 일요일, 브런치 메뉴로 딱인 샌드위치.

난, 쨈 바른 빵보다는 야채 잔뜩 넣은 식감 좋은 샌드위치를 선호한다.

이렇게 맛나고 간편하게 먹을 수 있는 샌드위치는 누가 만들어 먹기 시작했을까?

 

The history of the sandwich

 

A : Did you know that sandwiches are the most popular food in the world?
B : Really? I didn't know that. I thought they were mostly popular in the United States.
A : No, they're popular all over the world. They're easy to make , portable, and can be filled with a variety of different ingredients.
B : That's true. I love sandwiches. I could eat them every day.
A : Me too. My favorite kind of sandwich is a grilled cheese sandwich. It's so simple, but it's so good.
B : My favorite is a BLT. I love the crunch of bacon and freshness of the lettuce and tomato.
A : Those are both great choices. There are so many other types of delicious sandwiches, too, like club sandwiches, Reuben sandwiches, and Philly cheesesteaks.
B : I know, It's hard to choose just one.
A : So, what do you think is the history of the sandwich?
B : I'm not sure. I think I heard that it was invend by a British earl named John Montagu in the 18th century.
A : That's right. Montagu was a gambling addict, and he would often spend hours at the gaming table. He didn't have time to eat a full meal, so  he started having his servants make him sandwiches that he  could eat with one hand.
B : That's a funny story.
A : It is. But sandwiches have been around for much longer than that. There are records of people eating sandwiches in ancient Rome.
B : Really? I didn't know that.
A : Yeah. Romans would often put meat, cheese, and vegetables between two pieces of bread.
B : That's interesting.
A : So sandwich is a pretty versatile food with a long and interesting history.
B : I agree. It's your delicious and convenient way to eat.
A : I'm glad we had this conversation. Now I'm even more hungry for a sandwich.
B : Me too. Let's go, older some.

샌드위치의 역사

A : 샌드위치가 세계에서 가장 인기 있는 음식인 거 알아?
B : 정말? 몰랐어. 미국에서만 인기 있는 줄 알았지.
A : 아니야. 전 세계에서 인기가 많아. 만들기도 쉽고, 휴대하기도 편하고, 다양한 재료를 넣을 수 있어.
B : 맞아. 난 샌드위치 좋아해. 매일도 먹을 수 있어.
A : 나도. 내 최애 샌드위치는 구운 치즈 샌드위치야. 간단하지만 너무 맛있어.
B : 내 최애는 BLT야. 베이컨의 바삭함과 상추와 토마토의 신선함을 좋아해.
A : 둘 다 좋은 선택이야. 클럽샌드위치, 루벤 샌드위치, 치즈 스테이크 같은 맛있는 샌드위치도 많아.
B : 알아, 하나만 고르기가 힘들어.
A : 그럼, 샌드위치 역사는 어떻게 생각해?
B : 확실친 않지만, 18세기에 영국의 백작인 John Montagu가 발명했다고 들은 것 같아.
A : 맞아. Montagu는 도박 중독자였고, 종종 도박 테이블에서 몇 시간을 보내곤 했어. 온전한 식사를 할 시간이 없어서 하인들에게 한 손으로 먹을 수 있는 샌드위치를 만들어 달라고 했대.
B : 재미있는 이야기네.
A : 그렇지. 하지만 그보다 훨씬 오래전부터 샌드위치가 있었어. 고대 로마 시대에도 사람들이 샌드위치를 먹었다는 기록이 있어.
B : 정말? 몰랐어.
A : 응. 로마인들은  종종  고기, 치즈, 야채를 빵 사이에 넣어 먹곤 했어.
B : 흥미롭네.
A : 그래서 샌드위치는 다양한 재료를 넣을 수 있는 음식이면서 오랜 역사를 가진 음식이야.
B : 맞아 맛있고 편리한 식사 방법이야.
A : 이런 대화를 하다 보니 샌드위치가 더 먹고 싶어졌어.
B : 나도 그래. 어서 주문하자.
